The ramblings of a bearded crazy person

Darths and Droids

Darths and Droids is what you would call a ‘screencap comic’. It takes screenshots from Star Wars, and makes a comic out of them.

The basic premise is, Star Wars as we know it doesn’t exist. Instead, it is a Dungeons and Dragons campaign where the players have gone completely away from the DM’s planned storyline.

The author’s plan is to go through all six Star Wars movies, and they’re currently almost finished with Episode I. As such, it’s (again) a serialized story. So start at the beginning.

For the Lolz: No.

Waffo!

I don’t believe it. I forgot YTT again… Maybe I should call it YouTube Wednesday… Oh well. I try.

This week, we have:

A snow Fairy, Sugar: Sugar Sugar

This is an AMV about Sugar: A Little Snow Fairy, and using the song Sugar Sugar.

Yes, all outward appearances indicate that I am insane. However! I make the claim that I am not insane. Yes, the show is cute as all get out. It’s a Japanese anime that involves tiny fairies who control the weather.

But the show goes much deeper than that. Unlike American cartoons, where every story is resolved within the last five minutes of every half-hour episode, Sugar has an engaging story that unfolds throughout the series. Many episodes, especially later in the series, end on a cliffhanger that leaves you fumbling for the next disc, eager to find out what happens. And then it all finally culminates in the final episodes, wrapping up the story completely, not leaving any loose ends hanging.

The characters are genuinely likable. From Saga, the calm, collected, and very smart girl, to Sugar, who is somewhat of a lovable airhead. You have Greta, who is always challenging Saga, wanting to be the best at everything. Phil, the future Mad Scientist. As well as all of Sugar’s other fairy friends.

I highly reccommend the series, really. A lot. Sugar: A Little Snow Fairy. Look it up. I also recommend eating waffles while watching. It may enhance the experience.

And in closing, I’ll give you a bonus Sugar video. (Maybe making up for me being late the past two weeks.)

Snow Fairy Sugar: “Waka Laka”

Kitty Hawk

Breaking the trend of comix from RH Junior… This week, I’m talking about the new kid on the block.

Kitty Hawk (The rhyme was totally unintentional. I swear.)

It’s currently set in 1933, and we have a young pilot, pre-war US, and Nazi rocketmen. Sounds good already, don’t it?

Here’s a snippet from the storyline page:

As we join her story, she is just coming home from a three-year expedition in Europe–a sort of internship with the U.S. military that seems to have gone south at some point and ended up a chaotic mess of gunfire and rocket packs.  She has yet to share the details with any of her friends or family.

Like I said, this is a new comic, just getting started. But I already like the story, and the art ain’t so bad either! I can’t wait to see where the comic goes from here.

As usual, it’s serialized, so start at the beginning.

Oh, and there isn’t really enough strips yet for a For The Lolz. That feature will return next week.

The Device Has Been Modified

Here we go, entering our third week of operation.

The Device Has Been Modified

Here we have a music video about Portal. I like it already.

The Device Has Been Modified song is a techno remix using clips of GLaDOS’s voice. Her singing is great. (As if that was something to be doubted)

The video is filmed in World of Warcraft. The character has custom items, like the Portal Gun, and an Aperture Science Pirate Hat. (If Valve made one of those, I wouldn’t hesitate about buying it. ;) )

And the color pallete makes it look awesome, too. All in all, a fine video!

Nip an’ Tuck

For this week’s Webcomix with the X, I have selected Nip an’ Tuck, written by the same guy who makes Tales of the Questor, which I talked about last week.

N&T is about two brothers, Nip and Tuck Todd, who live on a farm in Malarkey County, somewhere in the South. Nip is adventurous, and loves to do crazy stunts, (often involving explosives,) whereas Tuck is more laid-back, and not always happy about the messes his brother gets into.

Other folks include Thelma Possum (Tuck’s girlfriend,) Gilly Gopher, (the resident city slicker, who moved out into the country,) Zelda Porcupine, (a very sweet, but very shy girl,) Tagger Beaver, (who admires Nip and Tuck a lot, and often follows them around, doing ‘boy stuff’)

There’s a lot more characters, but I aint gonna write them all down for you. :P

It’s a semi-serialized strip, so I say to start at the beginning.

And here’s your For The Lolz strip: Looks like we’ll have to kill YOU TOO.

Zombie Goasts Leave This Place

Gee, look at that. It’s only the second week, and I’m already late with my posting.

Anyway, now we bring you today’s yesterday’s YouTube video:

Half-Life: Full Life Consequences

FLC never fails to make me laugh, no matter how many times I watch it. The video is based on a fan fiction, written by an eight-year-old. The story in of itself is funny, but the video manages to make it even funnier. I especially love the narrator’s tone of voice.

And if you ever happen to be in a conversation with someone, and if they ever ask you ‘why not?’, be sure to say “BECAUSE YOU ARE HEADCRAB ZOMBIE”.

Something Seems Different

I bet that sets a new record for fastest time inbetween changing hosts for a blog…

Anyway, I decided that rather than take the easy way out, and have Blogger save me trouble, I opted for the more geeky option of hosting everything directly on my server.

So now you know why it looks different. Carry on.

Tales of the Questor

Surprise! Another new column today, where I go around writing reviews of the webcomics I read. (Or if the opportunity arises, make fun of them. XD )

What will this new column be called? Well, isn’t it obvious? Webcomix with the X. :D (Go on, tell me that’s not a cool name. I dare you.)

And so to start off, why not my favorite comic, which was also featured in yesterday’s video. Tales of the Questor.

TOTQ is about a young Racconan, which is a sentient raccoon-like people. Quentyn Quinn isn’t the biggest, strongest, or most magical of the kids in his town, but that doesn’t stop him from trying to become a Questor, like in the stories of old that he loves to read.

His subsequent adventures vary a lot in their makeup. But whether it’s rescuing the swamp chieftain’s daughter, recovering his sword from a gang, or battling evil fairies, Quentyn never gives up.

Along with great sense of humor and storytelling ability, great art and lovable characters, everything comes together perfectly to create what I consider the greatest webcomic of all time. If had to come up with anything bad to say about this strip, it would be that it’s not updated frequently enough!

Since it’s a serialized story, I recommend that you start at the beginning.

And to conclude this post, we have our ‘For The Lolz’ individual strip: Eatin’ pie.

Grocery Store Encounter Mechanics

Is this a sign that I really need to get a life?

I just spent 40 minutes typing a 500-word essay over at the CQFF, about all the possible outcomes and paradoxes that could occur in the event that “you could see every instance of you in a certain place, past and present, such as every time you walk into the Supermarket”

You can read all that at the CQFF, and then gasp at the sheer amount of nerdery I have just expressed.

Thank you, and good night.

Timor in Obscurum

For my first order of business, I’m starting a new weekly column, wherein I talk about videos I like on YouTube. That gives me a nearly infinite source of stuff to blabber about. And since today is Tuesday, the feature shall be called ‘YouTube Tuesday’.

And so I’m going to kick off the series with this video:

This is, in my opinion, the greatest video on YouTube. Ever. The art is from Tales of the Questor, which happens to be my favorite webcomic also. The story featured in the video is ‘Hunter of Shadows’, which starts at strip 161 and ends at strip 255. That’s also my favorite story arc within the strip. Add creepy German music to an already epic story, and you get a video that is just plain awesome.
